ARGUMENTATIVE RESEARCH
PROJECT

 

Research project on a controversial topic that affects today's society. Students conduct independent research, then compose a research-based argumentative essay, complete with arguments, counterclaim, and rebuttal.

​

Project culminates in a debate between classmates who have researched and argued opposing viewpoints on the same topic.

EPIDEMIC MINI-RESEARCH PROJECT

 

 

Introductory project for the novel World War Z. Students must research a disease that reached epidemic levels and record detailed information about the disease and the epidemic.

 

Students must compile their findings into a neat and organized poster and present their work to the class.

EXPOSITORY CRITIQUE TEMPLATE:
DUAL ARGUMENT FORMAT

 

 

Using two articles which argue opposing viewpoints on a specific issue, students highlight the basis of each article's argument, accounting for counterclaims and essentially substantiating each article's viewpoint.

 

Expository critiques completed with this format will have one argument espousing each side of an issue.

EXPOSITORY CRITIQUE TEMPLATE:
EVALUATIVE FORMAT

 

 

Students will create an argument in support of one of two viewpoints on a specific social issue (in this case, abortion). Students will use two articles of opposing viewpoints, evaluating which is the superior stance on the issue and supporting their arguments with evidence and counterclaims from both articles provided.

 

Expository critiques completed in this format will have one argument with two sources of information: one as evidence and one as counterclaims.
